WVB| Kodiaks Came Short in a Nail-Biting Home-Opener

November. 11, 2022- The Kodiaks women's volleyball fought tooth and nail in their home opener against the second-standing team in the North Division, the Kings University Eagles.

The Kodiaks started off strong as they received the first point of the game with a kill from #3 Jamie Brown. As the first set continued both teams fought neck and neck, attempting to control the momentum. The Kodiaks finally took control of the momentum near the end of the set, widening the gap. The Kodiaks closed out the first set with a score of 25-21.

First point of the second set was gained for the Eagles by a kill straight down into the Kodiaks' court by middle #4 Samantha Silva. Nevertheless, the score stayed tight until the Eagles gained an 8-point lead, changing the energy of the game. The Kodiaks were unable to regain their footing, allowing the Eagles to take the second set 25-21, guaranteeing a fourth set.

As the third set opened up both teams were making every point count, ceasing every moment to prevent the ball from touching their side of the court. Neither team was letting this set go without a fight. The crowd was sitting at the edge of their seat waiting for some sort of indication of who was going lead their team to the final set point. Kodiaks took the momentum at point 18 bringing them to the finish line with a score of 25-19, only needing one more set to win the game.

The pressure was high for the Eagles as they did not want to lose this set to the Kodiaks, inevitably losing the game. Nevertheless, morale maintained high for the Eagles as they took control early. However, the Kodiaks were not about to back down with the finish line so close in sight. They fought tooth and nail attempting to match and surpass the score of the Eagles; however, they were unsuccessful, and the Eagles took the set 25-22.

Both teams came into this set like their lives depended on it, going point for point. The final set was a nail bitter, as each touch of the ball left the crowd in nervous excitement. The Kodiaks fought hard to win their home opener, unfortunately, the Eagles made the right moves, closing out the final set 15-12.
