Lions complete weekend sweep of Broncos

The Ambrose University Lions completed a perfect weekend on the court, defeating the Olds College Broncos in straight sets at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday night.

The attack for Ambrose (6-0) was well spread out as Elise Wagner and Faith Solecki topped the charts at five kills apiece, while Brooklyn Deol added three kills and three blocks. Defensively, libero Christina Bett was named Ambrose's Player of the Game with eight digs, while Wagner added six of her own.

For the Broncos (0-4), Player of the Game Julia Pedersen and Sarah Merkosky posted five kills each, while Tabitha Martin contributed four kills and four blocks. Merkosky and Kalyna Bahler each posted eight digs for Olds College, while Lexi Lafreniere contributed seven of her own.

After a relatively even opening set, the Lions pulled away after a pair of timeouts to take a 25-18 decision. The second set looked like it was going in a similar direction until the Broncos rallied to go ahead late, only for the Lions to respond and take the set 26-24 to go up two sets to none.

Ambrose jumped out to a 16-9 lead midway through the third, then withstood another Broncos comeback to close out the match 25-20, sweeping the weekend between the two sides.

Both teams will hit the court next on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m., with the Lions headed north to battle the NAIT Ooks while the Broncos will host the Keyano College Huskies.
