Kodiaks sweep Broncos in season opener

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks took a bite out of the Olds College Broncos on the road, winning in straight sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-17) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

The Kodiaks had the measure of the play from the start, seizing momentum with the 25-21 first set victory and withstanding a Broncos rally late in the second set to take the middle frame 26-24 before pushing on and wrapping up the match with a 25-17 third set victory.

Statistics for Lethbridge College (1-1) were incomplete at the time of reporting, but for the the third set, Jamie Brown had six kills and three digs, while Mack Lewicki had five kills and five digs.

For the Broncos (0-1), Tabitha Martin led the way with seven kills, seven digs and three service aces, while Sarah Merkosky contributed eight kills and three digs.

The Broncos and Kodiaks will battle once again at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Ralph Klein Centre, which can be viewed at ACACTV.ca.
