Clippers Win In Three Against Kodiaks in Saturday Matchup

The Briercrest Clippers hosted the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in a Saturday afternoon matchup in Caronport, Sk.  

The Clippers got up to an 8-4 lead early on in the first set. Lethbridge battled back and tied the game up at 8. There was lots of good back and forth play, with each team trading one-point leads over the other with neither having much of an edge. Briercrest got ahead by a slight margin of  16-13, and eventually 21-15, which saw a Lethbridge timeout. Briercrest finished strong and won the 1st set by a score of 25-17. 

In the second set, Lethbridge jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. Briercrest fought back and tied the game up at 8. The Clippers then went on a serving run and got ahead 13-9 which saw a Kodiaks timeout in an attempt to halt their momentum. Out of the break, Briercrest kept rolling, extending their lead to 6, up 21-15, which saw a second Lethbridge timeout. Briercrest took the second set in the same fashion as the 1st, winning 25-17. 

In the third set, the Clippers went up 4-0 with a strong start. Both teams shared exciting rallies,  highlighted by some big kills, and aces, from both teams. Briercrest gained a 3-point advantage over Lethbridge, pulling ahead 12-9. The Kodiaks cut the deficit to just one, with the score now  

16-15, the Clippers called timeout. Briercrest went on a 4-0 run out of the break, extending their lead to five, up 20-15. Lethbridge then called a timeout themselves. Lethbridge's timeout seemed to work as well, as they forced a 1-point game. With the Clippers up 21-20; they called another timeout to regroup. Briercrest managed to hold off Lethbridge and took the 3rd and final set by a  score of 25-23. 

The ACAC player of the game award was presented to #9 Johanna Dixon of Lethbridge, who recorded 23 assists, 6 digs, and 1 block.  

For Briercrest, the award went to #15 Reese Sorensen, who had 13 kills, 5 digs, 4 aces and 1  assist in the match.
