GPRC hosts Concordia Thunder

The GPRC Wolves welcomed the Concordia Thunder to their gym for a Sunday evening game. This will be the last regular season home game that the Wolves host.

First point of the 1st set goes to the Thunder on an out of bounds block by the Wolves. Wolves would respond by a tip from the Wolves setter, Carly Thomson. The Thunder pull ahead 4-1, Wolves would pick up 2 points before Thunder possession. Both teams would battle at the net until mid-way through the set, when Concordia pulls ahead by 6. Coach Lauren Hale-Miller would call at timeout at 21:16, Thunder. The Wolves make a good run at a come-back. Thunder would take the 1st set 25:21 and go up 1-0.

The first 3 points of the 2nd set were taken by the Wolves. Concordia Thunder respond with getting Wolves Middle Robyn Alexandruk gets an ace serve to keep the Wolves leading the Thunder 9-5. GPRC Wolves call a time out as the Thunder make a push for the lead, the score sitting at 9-8 for the Wolves. Coming back after the timeout, #10 Leah Friesen puts the ball down for the Wolves. With much back and forth and after trailing for the set, Concordia Thunder puts in two points to take the lead from the Wolves with the score 22-21. The Wolves call another timeout. Coming back from the timeout, the Wolves retake the lead and the Thunder call a timeout with the score 24:22. And coming back from the break, its Gracie Smith to seal the second set for the Wolves. 25:22 Wolves win to even the game at 1:1.

CUE starts the 3rd set with an ace serve. Tough battle at the end, as both teams exchange points. 15:13 for the Thunder half way through. The Thunder would pull away by 4 on a few Wolves misses. #4 Lana Matthews comes up big with a huge hit to bring the Wolves within 3. Thunder would take the set 25:19 and a 2-1 lead.

The Wolves start the 4th set with a 5-0 run. Thunder calls a timeout. As the GPRC Wolves continue their point run, they lead the Concordia Thunder 13-3. After trailing the Wolves, Concordia calls for a timeout. Coming out with intention, the Thunder put in two points. Wolves get ahead by 11 and go on to end the set 25:13 and the game is tied at 2-2.

An out bounds hit by the Thunder, puts the Wolves on the board first. They would jump ahead 3-0. The Thunder would rally back and tie the game at 4 apiece. Concordia would rally back and win 15:8. They take the game 3-2.

Player of the Game for the Concordia Thunder is #13 Kara McIntrye and for the GPRC Wolves #10 Leah Friesen.
