Queens Beat Clippers in Friday Night Matchup

Briercrest's women's volleyball team hosted the Red Deer Polytechnic Queen's in a Saturday afternoon matchup in Caronport, SK.  

The first set saw the Clippers go down early to the Queens, with strong play on offense and defense from Red Deer to open the match. Briercrest called timeout down 17-11. Out of the break, the Clippers regained some momentum and closed the gap to four, though, still finding themselves down 24-20. Red Deer did lead 24-15 before Briercrest rallied, so Red Deer called a timeout when they were up 24-20. Briercrest got one more point out of the break, however, Red Deer took the first set by a score of 25-21.  

The Queens got out to a sizeable lead early, up 10-2, which prompted a Briercrest timeout. The timeout seemed to benefit the home team, who narrowed their deficit to 14-8 out of it, then 15- 11. Later, the Clippers found themselves down 21-14 to the Queens, which led to another timeout from them. Red Deer would go on to take the second set 25-18.  

In the third set, the Clippers started strong, going up 7-0 and controlling the play. Briercrest's hot start to the third set saw Red Deer call timeout. Briercrest went up as much as 11 points out of the break, up 17-6, resulting in another Red Deer timeout. The Clippers won the 3rd set 25-13. 

The fourth set played out in a similar fashion as the third, however, the roles were reversed. Red  Deer opened with a big lead, Briercrest called a timeout to regroup. Out of the timeout, Red Deer kept pushing and extending their point margin over Briercrest. Red Deer would take the fourth and final set by a score of 25-19, and defeat the Clippers 3 sets to 1.
