Trojans see positives in loss to Clippers

CALGARY, ALTA., (Jan. 11, 2020) - The SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team played really well, but were not rewarded for it.

For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Trojans were beaten by the visiting Briercrest College Clippers - Saturday afternoon's decision a 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-23).

Despite the straight-set loss, the Trojans put together one of their stronger performances of the year.

"It was a step up, for sure," said O'Dwyer. "We competed for the better part of three sets, so that's great. From my perspective, the volleyball was better than Friday night. . . You have to execute over and over and over. And for the most part, we did that."

SAIT falls to 2-14 on the season. Briercrest jumps to a perfect 14-0.

"That's a good enough effort to compete with anybody, but it's just a matter if we can do it consistently from game to game," O'Dwyer added.

Jadyn Leong (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) led the Trojans with 11 kills and eight digs, while rookie Brooke Litwinski (1st year, Red Deer, Alta., Journalism) added 10 kills and seven digs.

Rebecca Garner led the Clippers once again, recording 14 kills.

The Trojans return to action next weekend with a home and home series against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers - Friday at home, Saturday in Med Hat.
