Broncos fall to Ambrose in second game of home and home

http://gobroncos.ca/sports/wvball/2019-20/photos/IMG_2811_web.jpg Olds College Broncos women's volleyball team lost 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-11) to the Ambrose University Lions in the Parent Appreciation Night Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Ambrose jumped out to an early lead and were able to maintain it until Samantha Laboucan stepped up to get an ace and make the score 17-14. Ambrose went on a run to 20-15 and forced an Olds timeout. Ambrose maintained their momentum building a 22-16 lead. The teams then exchanged points with Ambrose taking a timeout. Samantha Laboucan had another service ace to cut the score to 24-19. The Broncos continued their momentum forcing an Ambrose timeout at 24-22 before the Broncos tied it at 24-24 and forced another timeout. Ambrose scored out of this timeout to take the advantage and then won 26-24.

The Broncos stepped out to a 4-1 lead to start the second set. Ambrose responded and brought the score to 6-5 before serving the ball wide and giving the serve back to Olds. The teams played side out volleyball until Ambrose took a 12-8 lead. Ambrose was able to maintain a 3-4 point lead until Janeen Pellatt stepped up to serve and the Broncos brought the score to 15-14. Ambrose responded by building a 19-14 lead and forcing a Broncos timeout. Ambrose took the set 25-18.

The teams exchanged points to start the third set before Ambrose forced a Broncos time out at 12-5. Broncos get the first score after the time out but didn't get on a role giving up the next two points before they made a substitution. Natalya Hauser stopped the Ambrose momentum at 15-7 with a block, but Ambrose then took the next four points and forcing a Broncos timeout at 19-8. The teams exchanged points until Ambrose extended their lead to 24-11. Olds served out of bounds for the Ambrose to win 25-11.   

Player of the game for Ambrose was Julia Kemper with a game high 11 kills, 15 digs and five service aces and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Samantha Laboucan with one kill, six digs and a team high two blocks.

Ambrose held the advantage in kills 29-16, assists 28-16, service aces 16-4 and digs 49-34 while Olds held the block advantage 6-5. Janeen Pellatt had a team high five kills and Avery Gammel had a team high 10 assists for Olds. http://gobroncos.ca/sports/wvball/2019-20/photos/IMG_2926_thumb.jpg

The Broncos host Medicine Hat College Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 for the Olds Community Night. Game time is 6:00 pm and 1:00 pm respectively.
