Last Home Weekend

In their last weekend home series of the 2018-2019 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women's volleyball season, the host Keyano College Huskies spiked off against the visiting Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canadian Natural Gymnasium.

For the Thunder it is a program on the rise.

In 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 they were winless during the regular season, falling in all 24 matches.

In 2016-2017 they earned one match and last year was a big jump with 6 wins and 18 losses.

The Huskies are in a brief slump.

 In 2014-2015 they were 8-16 and 2015-2016 13-11, qualifying for the post season.

The last two years saw the Huskies drop though in the standings to 6-18 and 4-20 in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 respectively.

Now in 2018-2019 the two schools meet with the Huskies at 6 matches won 14 matches lost 22 sets won 45 sets lost and the Thunder with 4 matches won 18 matches lost 16 sets won 59 sets lost.

Set 1

With Alexa Ellis serving, the Huskies go on a run up 7-2 with Thunder coach Brandon Thompson calling time out,

Huskies right side Haley Field gets her 34 service ace of the year to go up 13-5. Field scores yet another service ace.

Thunder time out, down 18-6.

Huskies allow Thunder back in the game briefly but secure the set.

Set 2

Keyano  21  Concordia 25

Even matched play with Thunder playing stronger at the net attack.

Exciting volleyball with several long rallies.

Thunder head out to a 16-11 advantage.

Set 3

Alex Ellis comes up big with a second tip followed by a floater for back-to-back points as the Huskies go up 11-9.

Thunder goes up 13-12 as Huskies fail to put up blockers.

Block by Jamie Ferns gives Huskies 18-14 advantage.

Set 4

Keyano 25 Concordia 14

As was the case in the opening set, Ellis goes on a long serve run here team up 6-1.

A big time BANGO by Haley Field followed by a service ace by Faith Grant cap off the match.

Home Hardware Player of the Game for Huskies is Alexa Ellis with 33 assists and 6 kills. Teammate Jamie Ferns had 11 kills and 12 digs.

POG for Concordia Tanielle Yacey with 8 kills and 9 digs
