OLDS, Alta. - The Briercrest College Clippers showed why they're one of the CCAA's top-ranked teams on Friday, defeating the Olds College Broncos in straight sets at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Justine Collin led a balanced performance from Briercrest (17-2) with six kills, seven digs and two aces, while Taylor Mitchell also had six kills to go with three digs and three aces.

Mia Harder, the Clippers' player of the game, contributed six solo blocks, five kills, four digs and two service aces.

For the Broncos (1-18), Megan Gleddie led all attackers with nine kills to take Olds College's player of the game award, while Emily Zaleschuk finished with four kills and five digs.

Briercrest seized control from the opening serve, taking an early 10-4 lead in the first set before the Broncos battled back to tie it at 16-16, largely on a service run from Abby Grobmeier. However, the Clippers would surge forward once more, then withstand another Olds College comeback bid before taking the opener 25-22.

The second set featured more back-and-forth play, with the Broncos leading 16-14 before the CCAA's fourth-ranked Clippers eventually pushed ahead to take the frame 25-21.

Briercrest put its foot down in the third set, running away in the middle part of the frame thanks to a Becky Garner service run en route to a 25-10 victory and the sweep.

The Clippers and Broncos will meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m., where Briercrest can clinch at least a share of the top seed in the ACAC South for the upcoming ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship, to be hosted by Ambrose University.
