Lakeland defeats Vikings in five sets

Camrose, AB - The Augustana Vikings took on the Lakeland Rustlers in their first game back from semester break. The Rustlers ended up taking home the win in five hard fought sets with scores of 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, and 15-9 respectively.

With the Vikings trailing for the set, Lakeland took the win 25-23 after letting the Vikings catch up to a tie at 23. The second set saw Lakeland gain a lead fairly early and they took the win 25-19 despite a strong effort from the Vikings.

Coming out of the huddle strong were the Vikings who were up 14-8 early in the third, but needed a timeout with the Rustlers catching up to trail only by two at 23-21, in order to take the set 25-21. The fourth set was much closer, however the Vikings maintained a slight edge all throughout winning 25-18. With the Rustlers not willing to give up a second overall loss for the season they fought hard for every point and dominated the fifth set to a 15-9 win.

From the Lakeland Rustlers, veteran Shelby Becker was awarded player of the game with 12 kills, 7 digs and 3 blocks. On the Viking side the Player of the Game Award went to rookie, Shae Boyes who had a stunning 19 kills, 18 digs, 3 assists, and 3 service aces.

The Vikings take on Lakeland again on Saturday, January 5th with the women starting at 6pm and the men to follow.
