Trojans cap fall semester with sweep of Broncos

CALGARY, ALTA., (Dec. 1, 2018) — SAIT Trojans women's volleyball coach Art O'Dwyer wasn't sure what to expect, but he's sure happy with what has transpired.

The Trojans defeated the visiting Olds College Broncos 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-21) to cap off the first semester of Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) regular season play with a 10-4 record.

"If someone would have told me at the beginning of the year that we would be 10-4 at the break, I would have taken that," said O'Dwyer, whose team beat Olds College 3-0 on Friday. "But as a coach, you always want more. The South Division is super tight so every win means a lot. This semester we have learned a lot about ourselves as a team."

Olds College falls to 1-13 on the season with the loss.

"I feel like we have quite a few options now, which is great," O'Dwyer said when asked about what he expects in the second half. "We have some technical stuff to work on. . . But it's good to have this break now, so the kids can focus on school while we work on some technical stuff."

Taylor Ellis (4th year, Nanaimo, BC, Legal Assistant) led the Trojans with eight kills, while teammate Jadyn Leong (2nd year, Calgary, Emergency Medical Technician) put away six kills along with nine digs.

Emily Zaleschuk led the Broncos with 10 kills and eight digs.

The Trojans will return to action on Jan. 11 and 12 when they meet Ambrose University in an all-Calgary home-and-home set.
