Trojans topple Broncos in straight sets

OLDS, Alta. - The SAIT Trojans took care of business on the road, defeating the Olds College Broncos in straight sets at the Ralph Klein Centre on Thursday.

Hayli Hinchey turned in a strong all-around performance for the Trojans (6-3), finishing with 10 kills and 20 digs, while Jadyn Leong added seven kills and 12 digs, and Simran Dhami added four kills, three aces, and three solo blocks for SAIT, who registered nine aces as a team in the match.

Karley Dieken had five kills to lead the Broncos (0-9), while Janeen Pellatt registered four in two sets of play, and Emily Zaleschuk added three kills, eight digs, and three solo blocks.

The first set was tightly contested, as the Broncos kept pace with the Trojans before SAIT ultimately took the opener 25-21.

SAIT gradually asserted itself further in the second set, opening up a slightly bigger gap en route to a 25-19 victory, before wrapping up the match with an emphatic 25-11 victory in the third.

Setter Veronica Headley (23 assists) was named the player of the game for SAIT, while Pellatt took the honours for Olds College.

The Broncos and Trojans will complete the home-and-home in Calgary on Friday at 6 p.m.
