Trojans go 0-2 against Clippers

CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 13, 2018) — If a positive has to be found, it could be that the SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team now knows what level they have to be at in order to climb to the top of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) this year.

For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Trojans were handed a one-sided loss, Saturday's coming in the form of a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16) decision at the hands of the Briercrest College Clippers.

"Looking at it now, yes, this is something we can learn from. Going into it, though, it shouldn't have been about that. We should have been ready," said Trojans middle Simran Dhami (5th year, Golden BC, Bachelor of Business Administration). "We are a young team, and lots of our players have never seen the speed of Briercrest, so we'll take this and move on it."

SAIT falls to 1-2 on the year, while Briercrest improves to 2-0.

After a quick first-set loss, the Trojans looked to turn things around in the second, leading 14-13 at one point. However, the Clippers went on a massive run and took the set, 25-17.

"We were right there with them, but we gave them too many service runs," Dhami said. "They would go back to the line and get five points, and we just couldn't come back from it."

The third set seemed like a formality for the Clippers, who finished off the contest with a 25-16 win.

Hayli Hinchey (5th year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration) led the Trojans with nine kills.

Mikayla Benterud paced the Clippers with a game-high 10 kills.

The Trojans will return to action next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks – Friday night in Lethbridge, Saturday night at SAIT.
