Feb. 3, 2018 – A dramatic first set comeback propelled the Briercrest Clippers to a straight-sets win and weekend sweep of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Saturday night.

Ready for redemption after a tough five set loss last night, the Kodiaks stormed out of the gate and built a 16-12 lead on the strength of four kills from Laura Serafini. With the score 22-16, the Clippers then called a timeout that turned the tide in the set and the match.

Briercrest would go on to score eight of the next nine points and tie the match at 23. Both teams then proceeded to miss a set point opportunity, before Briercrest was finally able to complete the comeback with a 26-24 win.

Though they tried to regroup, it was clear the wind was taken out of the Kodiaks sails.

Lethbridge got down early in set two, struggling to handle the fireball serve of Briercrest outside hitter Janae Rapley, whose six-point service streak built a 16-9 Clipper lead.

The Kodiaks attempted to reverse the script, scoring five of six points to narrow the Clipper lead to just four, but Briercrest was able to close out a 25-20 victory.

Briercrest proceeded to dominate the third set, building a 21-14 lead before closing out the third set and the match 25-18.

The Clippers (21-1) have secured top spot in the south division and will now have a bye week before hosting Ambrose in their final weekend of regular season play. The Kodiaks remain in fourth place in the division and will host SAIT in a crucial home-and-home next weekend.
