WVB | Kodiaks Claw Their Way to Win in Paws-itively Gripping Game

Nov. 10, 2017 – The Kodiaks faced off against the SAIT Trojans in their final home game of 2017 tonight. Lethbridge College played host to an abundance of prospective students on their Junior and Senior High School AppreciationNight, creating an electric environment in the Val Matteotti gym.

The Trojans came out strong, taking a lead early in the first set but the Kodiaks weren't ready to give in easily, trailing them closely. Kodiaks captain Kristine Ward guided the team through their slow start and kept them in the game until the Kodiaks were able to overtake the Trojans midway through the set. Reina Harata showed off her skills on the court with five digs supporting the Kodiaks a 25-22 set victory.

The Kodiaks clawed their way to an early lead in the second set. Jadyn Leong led the Trojans with three kills in the set, but Hirata once again controlled the floor defensively with another five digs while Laura Serafini demonstrated her ability to move the ball with some skillfully placed kills to guide the Kodiaks to a 25-16 set victory and advanced their lead to 2-0.

The Trojans entered the third set looking to redeem themselves and make the Kodiaks work to earn a win but the Kodiaks defense was ready for them. Shelby Rinehart made a statement at the net both offensively and defensively with Ashleigh Noel helping her out with her eight assists in the set, handing the Kodiaks a 25-20 set win over the Trojans and a 3-0 match victory.

When asked about her player of the game performance, Noel responded "It makes me feel like I was part of the intensity, but it goes to everybody, it's just nice to know I made a difference."

With this win the Kodiaks record advances to 7-2 in the season while the Trojans fall to 4-3. The two teams are back in action tomorrow night as they face off on SAIT's home court.
