After a disappointing 3-1 loss at the hands of the Rattlers on Friday night in Medicine Hat, the Ambrose Women's Volleyball team bounced back to return the favour in their own gym with a convincing 3-1 win Saturday night. 

Assistant Coach Brad Kilb, filling in for Head Coach Colin Kubinec, told us after the game that "The basic game plan was to do the simple things well…take away their strengths, play great defense, and cover while we attack aggressively." 

The teams stayed even throughout most of the first set before the Lions jumped out to a 19-13 lead off of strong serving by Shaelyn Mendes.Medicine Hat pushed to get back into the set during a lapse in Ambrose passing, making it as close as 19-21 before the Lions settled back down and finished the set at 25-20 with a spectacular defensive rally.

Set 2 went to the Rattlers; middles McKenzie Griffith and Paige Burton made much more of an impact this time around and helped put their team up 15-11 after an Ambrose passing error. Despite a strong mid-set comeback from the Lions to make it 20-21, strong serving from setter Kaila Gavel regained their 4 point lead and won 25-21 following a net touch from Ambrose setter Sarah Janz.

Ambrose jumped out to an early lead in the third set which only grew larger as the set went on. Leftside Julia Kemper hit a tough shot down the line to make it 14-7 for the Lions before the Rattlers began chipping away back into the game. The difference was as large as 19-10 Lions before Medicine Hat brought it all the way back to 21-19. Unfortunately for the Rattlers, the Lions regrouped and took the set with a comfortable 25-20 spread.

Set number 4 was all Ambrose, as they pushed to a very early 10-3 lead and never looked back. Great passing and defense stifled the Rattlers' attempts to score, and the final score of the set was 25-15.

Ambrose P.O.G. Sarah Janz said after the game, "In the third set we finally settled in a took control of the game…I think yesterday we let them take control, but today we stepped up and played hard."

Another weekend split for the Lions, sitting in 4th place at 4-4. Next weekend they'll take on the 7-3 RDC Queens, in Calgary on Friday and in Red Deer Saturday night.
