SAIT Trojans vs RDP Queens women’s bronze medal match
It was an intense battle for bronze as the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens faced off against the SAIT Trojans in a tightly contested match.
The opening half was evenly matched, with both teams exchanging offensive chances but ultimately being shut down by strong defensive play and stellar goalkeeping. SAIT broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when #19 Rachelle O'Leary (third year, Wheatland County, Alta.) delivered a perfectly timed pass to #9 Meaghan Wiebe (fifth year, Calgary, Alta.), who converted the breakaway opportunity to give the Trojans a 1–0 lead. Despite numerous attempts from both sides, RDP goalkeeper #31 Jana Leskewich (second year, Beaumont, Alta.) and SAIT's #1 Erin Mergen (fifth year, Calgary, Alta.) stood tall, keeping the score unchanged heading into halftime.
In the second half, the wind shifted in RDP's favour, adding pressure on the SAIT defence. Midway through the half, an RDP player was taken down inside the box while taking a shot, resulting in a yellow card for SAIT and a penalty kick for the Queens. #8 Olivia Lundell (second year, Red Deer, Alta.) stepped up and buried the shot to tie the match.
Riding the momentum, Lundell struck again in the 69th minute — this time from a distance — sending a powerful shot past the keeper to give the Queens the 2–1 lead. Despite a late push from the SAIT offence, RDP's defence held firm to secure the victory and claim the bronze medal.
#8 Olivia Lundell's outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned her a spot on the ACAC All-Tournament Team.
