Women's Soccer Huskies shut down Ooks to clinch championship spot

The Keyano Huskies Women's Soccer team shutout the visiting NAIT Ooks 2-0 at Shell Place in Fort McMurray, Alta. Sunday afternoon, securing their spot in the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's (ACAC) Women's Soccer Championship later this month in Lethbridge.
Felicia Rodney scored in the 39th minute and Sophie Griffiths doubled the lead in the 80th minute to confirm the win, which guaranteed the Huskies will at least finish in the top two of the ACAC North Division.
"It was not an easy game," Women's Soccer Huskies central midfielder Natalie Orellana said. "Coming from the tie yesterday, we just knew what we had to fix and we came back stronger so it means a lot."
Anastacia Lalonde collected her sixth shutout of the season in her final home game as the program recognized her as well three other graduating players in Emma Bendera, Blanca Palavecino, and Isabela Bustos-Chaba.
Natalie Orellana of the Huskies and Eleni Stamatakis of the Ooks earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
The Ooks conclude the regular season next weekend against the NWP Wolves while the Huskies close out their season with a trip to Lac la Biche to take on the Portage College Voyageurs.
