WSOC| Kodiaks fall to RDP Queens With Intense Finish at Comet Stadium

The Kodiaks faced off against the RDP Queens as they looked to finish the season strong as it nears its end with a new venue for both teams as they battled it out at Comet Stadium in Raymond.

The Queens wasted very little time getting things underway applying the pressure on the Kodiaks as Queens #7 let a rocket loose which beat the Kodiaks goaltender to give them an early 1-0 lead.

The Kodiaks were able to bounce back after generating some pressure in the Queens zone as Kodiaks Olivia DePasquale maneuvered around the Queens and found a gap between the Queens defenders getting the ball to #5 Ashley Sazalski to put it past Red Deer's goaltender to tie the game back at 1.

The Kodiaks continued to be aggressive in the offensive zone as the Queens tried to generate any momentum in the final stretch of the 1st half, but the Kodiaks held their ground keeping the game tied at 1 a piece headed into halftime.

The tempo of the game really picked up in the 2nd half as the Kodiaks and Queens knew that they were going to have to make something happen quick if they wanted to get ahead in the game as both teams really upped the pressure defensively as well as trying to generate any offensive scoring chances.

After a tumble in the Kodiaks zone turned into a free kick opportunity for the Queens, #7 Sofia Quinteros was able to elevate the ball just above the Kodiaks goaltender to put the ball top shelf giving the Queens the 2-1 lead halfway through the 2nd half.

Shortly after, Red Deer had a golden opportunity to increase their lead by 2 but Kodiaks Goalkeeper Jordan Quinn came up huge swallowing up the ball and making a crucial save to keep the game within reach.

Kodiaks #8 Bryce Bignell had a prime opportunity to tie the game back at 2 after getting ahead of the RDP defenders but was shut down by the Queens goalkeeper making a great save to keep them ahead with only minutes to spare which resulted in a rush the other way down the field where Queens #16 Jenica Swartz with the dagger putting the ball into the back of the net giving them the 3-1. The Kodiaks still had some juice left in the tank giving them one last chance at getting back in the game as Kodiaks #15 Jayna Timinski buried it bringing the game back to with 1. The Kodiaks failed to capitalize in the final minute, ultimately giving the Queens the win with a 3-2 score.
