OLDS, Alta. - Ashley Sazalski picked up her second consecutive hat-trick, and the Lethbridge College Kodiaks picked up a key road win by defeating the Olds College Broncos 5-2 at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday.
Montana Rousselle and Kenley Matishak also scored for the Kodiaks (6-3-1), while Brooke Krowchuk was relatively untested in goal with two saves.
On the other side, Kassidy Kelly scored both goals for the Broncos (3-3-2), while Kaia Galuska was busy in goal, making nine saves in a losing effort.
For their contributions, Sazalski and Kelly earned Player of the Game honours for their respective teams.
Kelly put the Broncos up 1-0 in the 10th minute off a free kick that just escaped Krowchuk's reach, only for Rousselle to respond immediately afterward off a rebound to level the score once more.
From there, Sazalski made her presence felt, breaking in on goal in the 15th minute and calmly slotting a shot past Galuska to put Lethbridge up 2-1, then doubling her tally on a penalty kick just three minutes later.
Matishak chipped in with an insurance marker during added time to give the Kodiaks a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Sazalski completed her hat trick off another penalty early in the second half, while Kelly rounded out the scoring off another free kick just over an hour in.
The Kodiaks will wrap up their regular season this weekend with games in Raymond against Red Deer Polytechnic (Saturday at 2 p.m.) and University of Alberta-Augustana (Sunday at noon), while the Broncos head to Calgary for matchups with Ambrose (Friday at 6 p.m.) and SAIT (Sunday at noon).
