NAIT TOPS VALIANT VOYAGEURS IN ACAC SOCCER ACTION

LAC LA BICHE – The Portage College Voyageurs Women's Soccer Team can be forgiven if they feel like they're starring in an episode of The Good Doctor instead of on the soccer pitch these days. Sunday afternoon at the Bold Center Soccer Field, the squad, already down several players due to injury, saw another of their troops taken to hospital for treatment during their game against the NAIT Ooks. Still, as Head Coach Kika Mukuninwa noted after the game, they put up a valiant effort before succumbing 5-0 to the visitors.

"The ladies really played well," he said. "Again, with a short bench – shorter than even last game – the ladies really worked hard and it would've been nice for them to get a reward, to reward themselves with a goal but they definitely worked hard."

Sarah Moorji led the way for the Ooks with two goals and an assist and was named Player of the Game for her team. Lexis Roy played a strong game for the Voyageurs and received a similar honour for her side.

As they prepare for back-to-back home games next weekend versus Northwestern Polytechnic, Mukuninwa believes his players can build upon the work they've put in this year so far. Despite the injuries and the losses on the scoresheet, the Voyageurs have been in every game to the end, something that they couldn't have claimed in their inaugural season or even portions of last year's action.

"Especially against a team like NAIT where in the past it might've been 15, 16-0, we've improved collectively so much," said Mukuninwa. "The ladies definitely did well today."
