The Keyano Huskies Women's Soccer team scored early and often Saturday in their homeopener, cruising to a 7-2 victory against the Northwest Polytechnic Wolves Saturday at SMS Equipment Stadium inside Shell Place in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Meghan Bielecki opened the scoring in favour of the visiting Wolves just three minutes into the match, but Felicia Rodney answered back two minutes later to equalize the game.
That sparked the Huskies, who received goals from Sophie Griffiths, Natalie Orellana, and Nathalie Andersson in the next 14 minutes of gameplay to build up a 4-1 lead. Arianna Payne cut the deficit to two goals in the 30th minute, but a late first-half goal by Andersson restored the three-goal lead.
After Andersson completed the first hat trick of her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference career, Rodney stepped up and notched her 40th career ACAC goal, becoming the eighth student-athlete in ACAC Women's Soccer history to accomplish the feat. Rodney also added three assists in the victory while Orellana joined her in the multi-assist performances with two.
Earning Player of the Game honours Saturday were Andersson and Khloe Webber.
