Red Deer, AB - The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings had a second half push against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Friday afternoon, but couldn't overtake the home team.
On the strength of five first half goals, the Queens wrapped up a 7-3 decision over the Vikings in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer quarter-finals.
Over the first 45 minutes, Queens captain Alisha Coules, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student, led the team with a hat trick. First-year student-athletes Jenica Swartz and Sofia Quinteros also scored for Red Deer Polytechnic.
In the second half, Augustana's offence was sparked.
Vikings' second-year midfielder Hanna Boyce, defender Sydnee Dallyn, and first-year forward Maya Pardeahtan found the back of the net. Dallyn, a Kinesiology student from Calgary, scored off a penalty kick in the 74th minute.
In the latter half, Red Deer Polytechnic's Alisha Coules recorded her fourth of the game and Dominique Jackson rounded out the Queens' scoring.
The Queens sealed a 7-3 home win, advancing to the semi-finals.
Alisha Coules was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game. Sydnee Dallyn received the honour for the Vikings.
The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will face the Kodiaks at Lethbridge College on Sunday at 3 pm in the ACAC South Division semi-finals.
