Red Deer, AB - Red Deer Polytechnic Queens forward Jenica Swartz moved into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer history books on Friday afternoon.
Against a hard working, shorthanded Ambrose University Lions team, the first-year Bachelor of Science Pre-Professional Medicine student struck eleven times, leading the Queens to a 22-0 victory. The previous goal scoring record was seven in a game.
The RDP Queens opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Second-year forward Reesa Garez beat a Lions defender and shot the ball in the left side of the net behind Ambrose's goalkeeper Tristan Kondo.
The Queens offence continued to press.
Over 45 minutes, Jenica Swartz led Red Deer Polytechnic's attack with four goals. Alisha Coules and Reesa Garez contributed three goals each. Grace Smith and Sofia Quinteros had singles.
At the half, the home team built a 12-0 cushion.
In the latter half, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens added 10 more goals, finalizing a 22-0 win.
Jenica Swartz scored seven goals in the second half. Paige Kalbfleisch had a pair of goals and Jaden Humphrey contributed one.
Jenica Swartz was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.
Skye Schott, a first-year midfielder from Kenora, received the honour for the Lions.
Kondo made 23 saves for Ambrose University. Queens goalkeeper Danyelle Bouvier did not have any shots to contend with.
The Red Deer College Queens (2-1-0) will face the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (0-3-0) in Camrose at 2 pm on Saturday, October 2, 2021. After Saturday's match, the Queens have two remaining games in the regular season schedule.
On Sunday, October 3, the Ambrose University Lions (0-4-0) will host the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (3-0-0) at 2 pm.
