WSOC | Kodiaks Remain On Top of The South

Oct. 15, 2019 - The Lethbridge College Kodiaks hosted The Ambrose College Lions in a rescheduled match due to poor weather and field conditions earlier in September. With only three games remaining in the regular season, Ambrose was looking for their first win however, they came up short.

With Lethbridge leading the division, they took advantage of this match to maintain their offensive possession and create as many goal scoring opportunities as possible. The team strung together multiple give and go's in the attacking third throughout the entire match. In Vicki Noronha's final home game with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks, she earned herself a hatrick helping her team defeat the Ambrose Lions 7-1.

The Kodiaks opened up Tuesday's match with a beautiful goal scored by Christine "The Moose" Moser. Moser went on an incredible solo run through multiple Ambrose defenders which gave her the opportunity to let one loose on Lions keeper, Janelle Reimer, finding the top left corner to give the Kodiaks an early 1-0 lead.

Shortly after Moser's goal, Haylie Shoults gave a great ball to Khloe Jankowiak who followed her lead by notching the Kodiaks second one of the match in the top left corner. Janelle Reimer of Ambrose did her best to cut off Jankowiak's angle but Khloe's shot was too precisely placed to be stopped.

Ailsa Fallows led a beautiful ball to Olivia DePasquale who decided it was her turn to hop on the goal train, however she would switch it up from her teammates and choose to snipe the top right corner from 25 yards out.

Lions came out fighting in the second half as Emily Hintz popped one over Kodiaks keeper Paige Gattafoni from 30 yards out.

Vicki Noronha and Stephanie Klassen quickly retaliated to Lions goal by putting one in themselves. Klassen gave Noronha the ball to which she found the back of the net.

Ambrose Lions then found themselves with a foul in their 18 yard box giving up a penalty kick to the Lethbridge Kodiaks. Senior, Vicki Noronha effortlessly stepped up to the PK to tuck in her second of the evening.

Senior Noronha would then earn herself a hatrick in her final home game as a Lethbridge College Kodiak by pulling the Lions keeper, Reimer out of position and tucking it behind her.

As Moser opened up the offensive attacks she also concluded it by assisting Bryce Sherring to the Kodiaks seventh goal of the match.

With another win under the Kodiaks belt, they extend their streak to three wins and remain on top of the South division. Lethbridge will travel to Red Deer next weekend.
