WSOC | Kodiaks Stayed on Top This Thanksgiving Weekend

Oct. 13, 2019 - Lethbridge College Kodiaks hosted the Medicine Hat Rattlers over Thanksgiving weekend. The Kodiaks were thankful to continue to lead the South division.

Haylie Shoults was an absolute offensive force not to be messed with over Sunday's match. Shoults earned herself four beautiful goals to help bring her team to victory. Darriane Holmes was also able to notch in a goal with the help of Vicki Noronha.

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks were back in action on home turf for the second last home game of the season against the Medicine Hat Rattlers. Lethbridge took immediate control of the game as they had possession right away.

It did not take long for the Kodiaks to take the lead as Haylie Shoults' corner kick was deflected off a Rattlers defender right into the back of the net. Kodiaks remained strong on the offensive side of the match. In the 39th minute, Vicki Noronha found Haylie Shoults which gave Shoults the chance to shoot from the top of the 18' arc, finding the back of the net. The Kodiaks would take a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The second half began the sam as Lethbridge took no time in increasing their lead. Vicki Noronha would pick up her second assist of the match as she crossed the ball to Dairy Holmes. Holmes cut through her defender and was able to put it past the goalie to take a 3-0 lead in the 47th minute.

With the minutes narrowing down, the Rattlers continued to pour on the pressure in hopes of offsetting the Kodiaks lead. Medicine Hat's Taylor Stroh set up centre back Kaylei Hole so that she could place the ball behind Lethbridge's goalie to trail behind by two in the 72nd minute.

Kodiaks quickly retaliated to ensure their dominance was still present during the match as Sydney attacked Shoults beautifully curled corner kick to find Lethbridge's fourth goal.

Christine Moser would take part in the offensive action as she placed a ball onto Shoults foot where she would dangle the Rattlers defender to strike one above the keepers fingertips.

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks remain at the top of their division after Sunday's match. They will be hosting a rescheduled match against Ambrose Lions Tuesday, October 15th at 2:30pm.
