Lions Snakebit in the Snake Pit

In the final Home game of the short Soccer season for Medicine Hat took place against the visiting Ambrose Lions. The Rattlers needed a win to maintain their Playoff position against the last place Lions. With 3 teams tied for the last playoff spot the Medicine Hat squad knew the implications of the game. The Lions started off with some high intensity play. It quickly became evident however, that the Home side was the stronger squad. Less than 20 minutes in, the Rattlers opened up a 1-0 lead. A Jadyn Fode corner lead to a Kaylei Hole marker, her second in as many games. The Rattlers continued to press and were able to stop the Lions advances. Ambrose was getting most of their chances off Rattlers fouls and Rattler errors. The home side struck again when Shelby Bach converted on a great free kick. Powering the ball into the back of the net. Just 5 minutes later, Rattlers Jadyn Fode was sprung on a break but Lions goalie Janelle Reimer made an unbelievable save keeping the score at 2-0. This remained into the break.

The Rattlers wasted no time in the second half getting their offence going again. Another Shelby Bach free kick on net, another Aleena Mathews volley, and a Jadyn Fode shot all highlighted early chances. The Ambrose keeper stood out as she came up with save after save. Ambrose defender Kathleen Stacey made two hard tackles both resulting in yellow cards. She was sent off after the second tackle and leaving the Lions to play with 10. The Medicine Hat team continued to press and ended up putting the ball away again. Maisa Rebello finished a beautiful volley from Jadyn Fode. The Rattlers continued to press with Aleena Matthews putting away a header. Not two minutes later, Grace Porter buried a shot from just outside the 18 yard box. Grace followed it up with another goal off a deflection somehow finding the back of the net. With the ball barely making it over half in the second, the Rattlers dominated on the scoreboard as well as the field. The Rattlers cruised to a 6-0 victory.
