CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 5, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans women's soccer team need points if they want to reach the post-season, and Saturday they could only manage one.

 

The short-handed Trojans gave up a two-goal lead, as they found themselves having to settle for a 3-3 tie with the visiting Lethbridge College Kodiaks in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field.

 

"We talked on the sideline, saying: 'Why are we up two goals and playing so defensively, they tie it, and then in the last four minutes we get aggressive again and almost score?'," said Trojans coach John Talerico. "It's frustrating."

 

SAIT falls to 2-2-2 on the season, while the Kodiaks move to 4-1-2.

 

The Trojans opened the scoring in the sixth minute when they were awarded a penalty kick that Skye Gordon (3rd year, Langley, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration) made good on.

 

Lethbridge tied it up 21 minutes later when Vicky Noronha scored the first of her two goals on the day.

 

Right before the half, SAIT's Jade Metz (1st year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) scored her first of two goals on the day to put the Trojans up 2-1.

 

After the break, Metz found herself in the right spot again, as a loose ball came right to her, and she made no mistake.

 

"She was working through some pain today, which was awesome to see because we only had 11 players today," Talerico added. "A lot of our players dug in today, and I respect them for that."

 

Noronha's second of the contest cut the lead to 3-2 before the Trojans were called for hauling down a Kodiaks player in the box. They were awarded a penalty shot, and Olivia DePasquale found the back of the net to tie it in the 86th minute.

 

The Trojans will have little time to rest, as they are back at it again on Sunday when they head to Medicine Hat to take on the Rattlers in a noon start.

 

"I'll say we got a good result, not an excellent result today," Talerico finished. "I'm happy with the point, but man, it's a funny game sometimes."
