WSOC | Kodiaks face their first loss of the season
Sept. 22, 2019 - It was an even start for both teams as the Kodiaks kept good composure with their possession.
It was an even start for both teams as the Kodiaks kept good composure with their possession. The Trojans created a couple great opportunities but it was not enough to get by the Kodiak's defence. In the 28th minute, Alexandra Morrison of the Kodiaks received a ball from teammate Khloe Jankowiak which provided her the opportunity to get a shot off; however Trojans goalkeeper, Amy Offredi came up with a two hand save.
This quickly turned into a physical half as both teams drew a handful of fouls each. The Trojans turned up the tempo after a couple of close attempts on net. In the 38th minute, Trojans winger Taylor Zimmer came through the counter side, she was able to get the pass across the Kodiak's defence and found Kenzie Georgsen all alone, she had no issue burying the first goal of the game for the Trojans.
As the game continued, emotions stayed high as Kodiaks Ailsa Fallows received a red card after displaying violent conduct on a challenge against the Trojan's captain Skye Gordon. Gordon would receive a yellow card for an un-sportsman like behaviour. The Trojans would keep a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Trojans took full advantage of the Kodiaks being down a player. The Trojans took control of possession as they looked to increase their lead. Kodiaks Olivia DePasquale had a perfect opportunity to even the score but her shot went above the cross bar. The Trojans were given a free kick as Trojans Skye Gordon made a crisp pass to Kenzie Georgsen who was all alone and tapped in her second goal of the afternoon. The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the 66th minute of the game.
While the Kodiaks played with one player short for majority of the game, they continued to work hard and keep the ball in the Trojans zone. Unfortunately, this is the Kodiaks first loss of the season but they will be on a home and away stretch again next weekend looking to redeem themselves.
