Trojans take decision over Queens at RDC

Red Deer, AB – The visiting SAIT Trojans made the most of their opportunities against the Red Deer College Queens Sunday afternoon. The Trojans had a 2-0 edge at the half and tacked on four goals in the latter 45 minutes en route to a 6-0 win.

After some early ball control from the Queens, the Trojans connected in the 12th minute. Calgary's Jade Metz carried the ball up the left and found Aki Fujimoro in front. Fujimoro's quick shot found open net on the left side of Queens goalkeeper Alethea Riemer. Then 24 minutes later, SAIT went up by two. Bachelor of Business Administration student Skye Gordon buried a penalty kick in a similar spot as the opening marker.

In the 58th minute, Bachelor of Business Administration student Jade Metz gave the Trojans a three goal cushion. Thirteen minutes later, SAIT added another tally. Jessica Gabel took a long shot that was partially blocked by Riemer, but the ball's momentum found the open cage. Moments later Riemer came up big in net. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student made a nice hand save off a penalty kick. With time winding down, Jade Metz and Jaime McPherson finalized a 6-0 road decision for the SAIT Trojans.

Saskatoon's Lexi Kowalchuk was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Calgary's Mykayla Geary-Rigio received the award for the Trojans.

On Saturday, September 21, the Queens will face the Ambrose University Lions at 12:00 p.m. in Calgary. At the same time, the SAIT Trojans will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
