On this Saturday afternoon, the Lions only needed 1 chance to net their first of the game and took advantage of it, scoring in final seconds of stoppage time. Both the Lethbridge Kodiaks and Ambrose Lions played a very consistent defensive battle throughout all 90 minutes. Great scoring chances were very hard to come by the entire night for both teams. Where there was a slight breakdown on defense Janelle Perry (GK – Ambrose Lions) was there to close the door, making 3 key saves throughout the night! The Kodiaks consistently tried to use their speed by sending the ball up from their defense past the Ambrose defensive line however 5 offsides' and strong play by the Lions did not allow the Lethbridge strikers to run onto these passes. The Kodiaks similarly also played a strong defensive game, not allowing a shot on goal till the inevitable game winner. Coming up the right side of the pitch, Madison Kehler played a great ball up to Emily Hintz who beat her defender and made no mistake, scoring past Lethbridge keeper Kianna Cusack. Cusack played well receiving the Lethbridge Player of the Game thanks to leading her team well in their own end, while Ambrose Lions goalie, Janelle Perry also was awarded with the Player of the Game award from Ambrose.
Next up for the Lions, they challenge the SAIT Trojans at home on Tuesday at 6:00pm.
