Trojans unload in second half to beat Queens

CALGARY, ALTA., (Sept. 16, 2018) — Patience paid off for the SAIT Trojans women's soccer team on Sunday.

The Trojans scored four of their five goals in the final 45 minutes of play, as they defeated the visiting Red Deer College Queens 5-0 at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game.

That's the adjustment we want to make, fixing our slow starts," said Trojans head coach, John Talerico. "The good thing is that we are patient, and don't seem to get upset at the little things. We just continue to play and keep the game simple, as we are most effective that way."

SAIT moves to a perfect 4-0 on the season, while the Queens suffer their first loss of the year and fall to 2-1.

In their four games, the Trojans have been remarkably stingy in the goals allowed category, giving up a grand total of zero markers so far.

"We're just focusing on keeping the ball from the other team and using that possession to our advantage, and have done a good job of that so far," stated Talerico.

Scoring for the Trojans, in order, were: Skye Gordon, Rachelle LaBranche, Sage Meyers, Maddie Lee and Mataya Blakney.

Players of the Game honours went to SAIT's Jaime McPherson and Red Deer College's Rebecca McBride.
