OLDS, Alta. - The Red Deer College Queens took charge early, and they kept the momentum going en route to a 3-0 victory over the Olds College Broncos at Richardson Pioneer Field on Saturday.

Haley Nassichuk-Dean, Mikayla Fujimoto, and Emily Richard all scored for the Queens (2-0-0), while Erin Gill made five saves to pick up the clean sheet.

Auslin McDaniel-Perrin stopped nine shots for the Broncos (1-1-1).

The play tilted in favour of the Queens early on, as they had pressure around the Olds goal, though McDaniel-Perrin was able to keep them at bay until the 21st minute, when Nassichuk-Dean intercepted a goal kick and scored from about 25 yards out, putting Red Deer ahead 1-0, a lead they maintained through halftime.

The Broncos came out strong to start the second half, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities to draw level.

Red Deer firmly established control about an hour into the game, constantly keeping the attack in the Broncos end.

The Queens' persistence was rewarded in the 79th minute, as a Broncos clearing attempt came out to Fujimoto, who lobbed it over McDaniel-Perrin and into the far side to give Red Deer a two-goal edge.

Red Deer would put the game out of reach a few minutes later, as Richard found the short side off a free kick.

The Broncos' best opportunities to get on the board came in the final 15 minutes, but Gill was up to the task in denying both Katharina Oeltermann and Jayna Espie-Sanderson to preserve the shutout.

Olds will look to split the weekend when they welcome the Lakeland College Rustlers to Richardson Pioneer Field at noon on Sunday, while Red Deer will enter a battle of undefeated teams when they face the SAIT Trojans in Calgary, also on Sunday at noon.
