Trojans score often in win over Rustlers

The SAIT Trojans women's soccer team defeated the Lakeland Rustlers 12-0 at SAIT Cohos Commons Field.

On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the Trojans were firing on all cylinders, getting four goals from both Mataya Blakney and Maddie Lee in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest. Skye Gordon scored two goals of her own, while Taylor Zimmer and Deanna Kuan each netted one.

The Trojans led 4-0 at halftime, and then doubled that output in the second half they fired eight more into the Lakeland net.

"It was a couple factors; we've been working a lot on just the simple part of the game more and more and then confidence," SAIT head coach, John Talerico, said. "Some of these players, especially someone like Maddie who has a lot of USports experience, it adds a lot to the team."

The Trojans improve to 3-0 and the Rustlers move to 0-2 on the year.

Players of the Game honours went to the Trojans' Blakney while Gabrielle Lapointe took it for the Rustlers.

Next up for the Trojans is the Red Deer College Queens, who they will welcome to Cohos Commons Field tomorrow at noon.
