Leavall's two goal effort lifts Thunder past Rattlers

OLDS- The 2017 North Star Sports ACAC Women's Soccer Championship kicked off on Friday afternoon on Normie Kwong Field, as the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder took down the Medicine Hat Rattlers 2-1.

The Thunder move on to the quarterfinals due in part to a two goal performance by Rebecca Leavall.

Leavall opened the scoring just 16 minutes into the game. Receiving a pass from Madison Kindzierski just outside the left side of the box, Leavall struck a ball on the ground towards the far side of the net. Keeper Kassidy Suberlak was caught flat footed, and the rolling shot evaded her to give Concordia an early lead.

Concordia would control most of the play for the rest of the half, but were unable to add to their lead before halftime.

Twenty-three minutes into the second half Leavall would increase the Thunder's lead to two.

While Meagan Clarke would add a goal for the Rattlers late, it wouldn't be enough to overcome the the deficit as Concordia advances to the semi-finals of the Championship.

The Thunder will be back in action tomorrow, as they take on the top seeded NAIT Ooks in search of a berth in the Championship Finals.
