trojans book spot in semifinals with win against Rattlers

The SAIT Trojans poured on the offence Saturday afternoon in the first of two playoff games for the 2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Futsal Championship, winning 8-1 against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.
"It's always good to win and move on to tomorrow," said Trojans Head Coach John Talerico. "They're always tough.
"You could tell they were missing their key defender there. It was our plan to press them as much as we could and it wore them down."
With the win, the Trojans booked their spot in Sunday's first semi-final.
After playing to a tight 1-1 first half, the Trojans opened up the game with seven goals ands a smothering defence that kept their opponents off the board for the remainder of the game.
Nicole Charlton and Meaghan Wiebe each scored twice. Mykayla Rigio, Sofia Pena, Grayce Herrera Perozo, and Jade Metz also scored with Metz having the Trojans first goal of the match.
Rowan Prud'homme had the lone goal for the Rattlers in response.
Wiebe of the Trojans and Molly Morris of the Rattlers picked up Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
