Broncos squeak past SAIT late

A late goal from Sydney Jack was all the offense the Olds College Broncos needed, as they snuck by the SAIT Trojans 1-0 at the Town of Olds Sportsplex on Thursday.

Ali Macaulay drew the lone assist for the Broncos (4-5-4), while Cienna Kinghorn made 19 saves for the shutout.

Kaylin Schellenberg came close to stealing a point for the Trojans (2-10-0), as she turned in a 44-save effort in a losing cause.

Olds College had the measure of the play throughout the majority of the matchup, outshooting SAIT 18-3 and 33-9 through the opening two periods respectively, but they were unable to beat Schellenberg, who made a number of key saves to preserve the scoreless status through 40 minutes.

Jack's breakthrough ultimately came with 2:51 to go after SAIT turned it over inside their own blue line. The initial shot from Macaulay was tipped by a Trojan over to Jack, who put her first opportunity off the side of the net before wrapping it around and beating Schellenberg to the post.

The Broncos and Trojans will face off for the final time this season on Saturday at Winsport at 7:30 p.m.
