Broncos hold off Rustlers at home

The Olds College Broncos made an early goal stand up, as they defeated the Lakeland College Rustlers 1-0 at the Town of Olds Sportsplex on Friday.

Broncos player of the game Ireland Greenhough was Olds College's lone goal scorer, while Cienna Kinghorn made 33 saves to register the shutout for the Broncos (2-4-1), who have won consecutive games after dropping their first five.

For Lakeland (2-3-1), Mackenzie Dojahn made 18 saves to keep the Rustlers within striking distance all night with key saves, while Madelyn Mann earned player of the game honours for the Rustlers.

Greenhough did her damage midway through the opening period as the Broncos, taking a Sydney Jack pass from out of the corner and backhanding it through Dojahn's legs to put the Broncos up one.

However, the Rustlers wouldn't go away, particularly as they fired 14 shots at Kinghorn in the third, with Kinghorn's biggest save easily coming in the dying seconds as she dropped down to rob Kylie Perry on a Rustlers 3-on-0 right before the buzzer sounded.

The Broncos and Rustlers will square off once more on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Olds to wrap up the first half of the season for both sides.
