Ooks Defeat Queens

The NAIT Ooks took on the RDP Queens in their home opener on Friday night at the NAIT Arena. It was a big game for the Ooks in front of their home crowd. It was also a memorable game for goalie Kaitlyn Slator as she was one win away from breaking the NAIT all-time wins record for a goaltender.

The game started with the Ooks winning the puck drop. Number 14, Sierra Meroniuk, sends the puck to the back of the net for the first goal of the night. Ooks let the puck into the neutral zone allowing #22 Avery Lajenuse to break away and take a shot, but the Ooks goalie was there to make the stop.

After intercepting a pass, the NAIT Ooks returned with a massive goal from number 4 Jessica Engelbrecht. The Ooks weren't done there, though, as they found their way to the back of the net a third-time thanks to number 24 Cheyenna Harden.

It was 3-0 for the Ooks after the first period.

Halfway through the game, the RDP goalie worked hard, saving over 17 shots from the Ooks. Both teams were battling hard, trying to get their offensive opportunities but coming up short, thanks to great defence.

It was 3-0 after the second period for the NAIT Ooks.

The Queens weren't bowing down, though, as they came out strong in the third. RDP Queens #22 Avery Lajennesse scored early in the period closing the Ooks lead to two. It was an intense back-and-forth battle, but the Queens couldn't catch the Ooks. The Queens pulled their goalie for the chance to tie up the game. The Ooks number 18, Bre Martin, got a goal on an empty net with a minute left on the clock. The Ooks win 4-1, giving Slator her 37th ACAC win as she climbs to the top of the NAIT records.
