Ooks Lose to RDP Queens

The NAIT Ooks hosted the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at the NAIT arena for a rare daytime game on Saturday. It was an entertaining game, and both teams played well, but RDP came out of it with a 1-0 win.

Things were physical to start in this game. A total of six penalties were handed out in the first. NAIT outshot RDP 12-6 in the frame, but the goalies stood tall in the first, keeping it scoreless.

0-0 after one.

A couple of minutes into the period, RDP had a great scoring chance to get the game's first goal but could not put the loose puck in as the shot was partially blocked and saved. Scoring chances were at a premium, and the game was tightly checked.

It was still scoreless after two.

Less than a minute into the third period RDP opened the scoring as Mary Hirsch came down on the right-hand side of the goal and fired home the first goal of the game. NAIT applied the pressure all the way until the end, but Madison Fox stood tall and kept the door shut. The final shots in the game were 31-21 for NAIT, and both goaltenders earned players of the game.

Final score 1-0 RDP.

Both teams look to the rematch on February 7th.
