Broncos Women’s Hockey falls to top seeded Ooks

Olds, AB

The Olds College Broncos fell 6-2 against top seeded NAIT Ooks on January 27, 2022 at the Olds Sportsplex. 

The Broncos faced an uphill climb tonight against the NAIT Ooks. By the end of the first period NAIT led the Broncos 2-1. The Ooks first goal was scored at 9:57 by Hanna Paquette and assisted by Sidney Kobi. The Ooks Treasure Posch was sent to the box for tripping at 15:01 allowing the Broncos to score their first goal on the powerplay! Broncos first goal was scored by Hailey Hoogkamp and was assisted by Sydney Jack at 15:40. Shortly after Olds College's Reegan Broadbent was sent to the box for holding at 17:45 which afforded NAIT the advantage and a powerplay goal. The Ooks second goal, scored on the powerplay at 18:30 was scored by Wynona Creyke from Bre Martin and Treasure Posch. Shots at the end of the period 15-8 for the Ooks. 

The second period was huge for the Ooks as they scored half of their points. The first goal of the period was scored on the powerplay at 13:37 by Bre Martin and assisted by Hanna Paquette. The Ooks fourth goal was scored again on the powerplay at 14:58 by Cassidy Shandro assisted by Brittney Savard and Wynona Creyke. The shots at the end of the second period were 15-9 for the Ooks. 

The final 20 minutes of play saw NAIT's sixth goal which was scored at 3:03 by Michaella Kibblewhite and assisted by Tayler Premak. The Broncos followed up with their second goal at 8:51 and was scored by number 25 Jorja Werenka. The third period was the busiest for the penalty box with NAIT spending 6 minutes in the box and Olds spending 2 minutes. Shots in the final period were 11-9 for the Broncos and final shots were 39-28 for the NAIT Ooks. 

The player of the game for the NAIT Ooks was number 19, Wynona Creyke and the player of the game for the Olds College Broncos was number 21, Hailey Hoogkamp. The Olds College Broncos will be back at the Olds Sportsplex again on Thursday, February 10, 2022 as they take on the SAIT Trojans!
