Ooks top Trojans 4-2

EDMONTON, Alta.- The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team defeated the SAIT Trojans 4-2 on Friday night in the NAIT Arena.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead as Hailey McCallum scored just 1:01 into the game. In the second period, the Ooks took a 2-1 lead as Megan Leblanc and Bryana Merrill both score on the powerplay. In the final period, Bre Martin centered a pass to Brittney Savard who then managed to get a quick shot on net, Martin then collected the rebound and fired it home, giving the Ooks a 3-1 lead. McCallum got the Trojans back to within one on the powerplay with 2:49 remaining. Jordan McMillan then sealed the 4-2 win for NAIT with an empty-net goal.

"We knew SAIT was going to be a gritty and hardworking team. They played very well tonight, bringing a tonne of speed. I wasn't thrilled about our opening period but was very happy with our energy and effort that we brought in the second and third period," said Ooks head coach Stef Thomson. "We got into some penalty trouble in the third, but we found a way to kill some off and pot an empty-net goal. I think it says a lot about our ability to grind out games and ultimately find a way to win."
