OLDS, Alta. - Kali Cummings had the lone goal in a shootout, and the Olds College Broncos came back to defeat the Red Deer College Queens 2-1 at the Town of Olds Sports Complex on Thursday.

Fiona Milligan scored in regulation for Olds College (6-10-1), while Lexi Bruce made 29 saves for the Broncos, including a perfect performance in the shootout.

Kaely McMurtry answered for the Queens (7-8-4), while Miranda Cook turned aside 26 shots in the Red Deer College goal.

With the victory, the Broncos moved five points clear of SAIT for the final ACAC playoff spot with seven games to play.

Following an evening opening half to the first period, the Queens struck on the powerplay as a good cycle led to Mairead Bast feeding McMurtry in the slot, who one-timed it past a screened Bruce to give Red Deer College a one-goal lead through the opening 20 minutes.

After a scoreless second period, the Broncos found the equalizer midway through the third period. Olds College sustained its forecheck, with a Mairyn Tucker centering pass finding its way out to Milligan, who stepped into a slapshot that beat Cook high to knot the game up at 1-1.

Neither team broke the deadlock in overtime, with both Bruce and Cook making key saves for their respective teams, setting the stage for Cummings to play the hero with a hesitation deke in the shootout.

Milligan earned player of the game honours for the Broncos, while Karissa Cullum took the honours for Red Deer College.

It was a chippy game on both sides, with the Queens taking nine minor penalties to five for the Broncos.

The Broncos and Queens will have their final regular season meeting at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in Red Deer on Friday at 7 p.m.
