OLDS, Alta. - Lexi Bruce secured her first career ACAC shutout, and the Olds College Broncos ground out a 2-0 victory over the SAIT Trojans to begin the second half of their season at the Town of Olds Sports Complex.

Bruce made 28 saves for the victory for the Broncos (5-7-1), while Bailee Werstroh and Hanna Wadlegger had the Olds College goals.

The Broncos also received a boost on the back end, as Emily Hill returned after suffering a collarbone injury earlier in the season.

Kaylin Schellenberg turned in a solid performance in the SAIT net, making 26 saves for the Trojans (2-11-0), who went scoreless in five powerplay opportunities.

Bruce was tested early and often by the Trojans, with the best of her 12 saves in the first period coming on an early Tashel Scantlebury chance from the top of the crease to keep the game scoreless through 20 minutes.

Olds College broke the ice just under seven minutes into the second period, as Werstroh intercepted a Trojans clearing attempt and took a wrist shot from the slot. Schellenberg made the initial save, but lost the puck on the rebound as it trickled past to put the Broncos up 1-0 going into the third.

The Trojans had their chances at finding an equalizer, but Bruce thwarted every attempt before Wadlegger iced it with a powerplay marker into an empty net with 40 seconds to play.

Bruce was named the player of the game for the Broncos, while Paige Halderman earned the honours for the Trojans.

Olds College and SAIT will meet again in Calgary on Saturday at 7 p.m., and that game will be available at ACACTV.ca.
