Despite a late push, women's basketball will not have a shot at defending their two-title streak.
The Rustlers hosted King's Eagles in a play-in game for the 4th seed in the North Division. Both teams had managed to secure big wins in recent weekds heading into the matchup.
early on, the visitors stymied Lakeland's offence and built up a 36-28 lead at half. Despite some improvement in the third, Lakeland could not in turn slow down Anelia Ayotte of the Eagles, who had a game high 27 points. Heading into the final quarter it was a nine point game.
After the first couple of minutes, Lakeland finally started to gain traction on both ends, with several timely baskets eventually leading to tying the game at 70 with less than a minute. However, a quick score from the Eagles, followed by a costly turnover by the Rustlers and a close miss a possession later, sealed the game 75-70 for the road team, propelling King's to the ACAC Championship tournament.
Ayotte and Angela Baran (15 points in her final ACAC game) were the POG's.
With the loss, Lakeland ends the bid for a third straight league title.
