Women's Basketball Huskies close out regular season with win at home

The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team closed out their 2022-23 regular season schedule with a 57-44 win against the Ambrose University Lions Saturday night at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre. 

Building a 17-11 lead after one quarter, the Huskies extended their lead to 14 at the half. The Lions cut into that deficit with a 18-13 third quarter, but the Huskies closed out the game with a 10-6 fourth quarter to secure the win.

Maja Besic led all Huskies with 16 points, while Joy Victor posted 11 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Playing in the final regular season home game of her Huskies career, Zera Lynn Panesa notched 13 points and six rebounds. 

Overall, the Huskies shot 32.9 percent (24-for-73) from the field, including five three-point shots on 19 attempts. They made four of nine attempted free throws. 

From the Lions, Andrijana Bokan led all players with 17 points, finishing one ahead of Besic. However she was the only Lions player in double-digits on the day as Ariana Dela Paz came the next closest with nine points.

Overall, the visiting Lions shot 30 percent (15-for-50) from the field, making one three-point shot. They made 13 of 17 free throw attempts throughout the game. 

Following the game, the team honoured Panesa, the team's lone graduating player.

Panesa of the Huskies and Bokan of the Lions earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
