Women's Basketball Kodiaks top Huskies 49-45 in Fort McMurray

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks topped the Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team 49-45 Friday night at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Courtney Deemter led all players from both sides with 16 points while Kitawna Sparks added 12 to also finish in double digits. 

Collectively, the Kodiaks shot 36.4 percent (20-for-55) from the field. They made good on eight of their 21 attempts from the free throw line.

Maja Besic led the offensive charge for the Huskies. Zera lynn Panesa added 12 and Joy Victor contributed 10 to round out a trio of Huskies in double digits, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. 

The Kodiaks led 9-6 after the first quarter, but the Huskies countered to lead 18-17 at the break. A 20-15 third quarter went the way of the Huskies to give them a six-point advantage, but the Kodiaks won the fourth quarter 17-7 to capture the road win. 

From the field, the Huskies shot 34.6 percent from the field (18-for-52), making four three-point shots along the way. They made good on five of 14 free throw attempts throughout the contest. 

Besic of the Huskies and Madison Barfuss of the Kodiaks earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides. 

The Huskies round out their regular season schedule Saturday evening against the Ambrose University Lions.
