Ooks Fall to Thunder

On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks played the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at the NAIT gymnasium. After an exciting forty-minute game, the visiting Thunder win 67-58.

In the first quarter, the Thunder took the lead early with great offensive plays by number two Jenna Rinsky and five Ashely Leeb. The Ooks were struggling offensively to break through the Thunder's defence. Ooks, hoping to regroup and switch the momentum for themselves, called the first time out of the game. Ooks were struggling to take the lead from the Thunder.

The Thunder led the game 18-12 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Ooks seemed to have woken up and began to close the point gap with incredible drives from number thirteen Rory Vandermeer and number six Payton Neilson. The Thunder's defence needed help to keep out the Ooks. As the Ooks closed the gap, the Thunder took a timeout; Following the timeout, the Thunder's offensive drives to the net were becoming deadly to the Ooks' defence. The Thunder created a ten-point gap, leaving the Ooks scrambling to keep up again.

At halftime, the Thunder led the game 39-26.

In the third quarter, the Ooks again slowly began closing the gap with great drives from number seven Ellie Wilde and outside shots from number nine Abigail Payne. However, the Thunder dominated the Ooks offensively and defensively, with great plays by number ten Kourtney Oss and two Jenna Rinsky.

The Thunder continue to hold onto their lead in the game after the third quarter, 51–39.

In the fourth quarter, the Ooks came out strong with great drives by number nine Abigail Payne and strong defensive rebounding from number thirteen Rory Vandermeer. The Ooks were doing a great job defensively, shutting out the Thunder and closing the gap. With the Thunder losing momentum, they called a timeout to regroup and continue to hold the lead, hopefully. The Ooks continued to close the Thunder's lead. The Thunder barely managed to maintain their lead, winning the game 67-58.

The players of the game were number nine, Abigail Payne, from the Ooks and number two, Jenna Rinsky, from the Thunder.
