The King's University Eagles took advantage of a slow start from the Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team Saturday to score a 46-43 victory Saturday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Megan Aleman led the way with 18 points and was the lone player on either team to reach double digits on the day. Kayla Soetaert came close to double digits with nine points while Cameryn Hrycun had seven to her final stat line.
The Eagles took a 17-3 lead after one quarter with the Huskies clawing back a single point in the deficit to trail 27-14 at the half. The Huskies won the third quarter 13-10 to further shrink the Eagles' lead and made things interesting with a 16-9 fourth quarter, but couldn't pull of the comeback.
Casey Gorieu led the Huskies with nine points while the trio of Joy Victor, Kayla Lutterodt, and Zera Lynn Panesa each had seven points.
Aleman collected 16 rebounds for the double-double while teammate Casey Belway had 14 rebounds in the contest. Maja Besic led all rebounders on the Huskies with nine.
Ella Majeau claimed Player of the Game honours for the Eagles while Gorieu earned them for the Huskies.
